Wow! Time has gotten by me and I haven't been able to update as much as I intended to. So today is the 27th of December and a lot has gone on the past few days. Here is a bit of what has been happening with the fam over:
23 December:
Abby was off all day and able to watch baby A all day. Abby is officially off for the rest of the year! I left work a bit early and am also off for the rest of the year! Woohoo! Most of the remaining present wrapping happened this night. Christmas finally felt here!
24 December:
We slept in as a family, which is always fun (and rare). Then we began to prepare for a trip to da 'ville where we would spend most of the rest of the day. We got to my mom's house and had some lunch and then did our gift exchange with my mom, sister, and her two boys. I got some awesome UK swag! Abby got some fun stuff and baby A really cashed in with some fun toys and a Pottery Barn mini-stuffed chair (and yes, I am positive that is the technical name of it).
My mom's side of the family always has a gathering on Christmas Eve. It is always nice to get together with them and see how everybody has changed over the year or so. This year was at one of my cousin's house and started earlier than usual. I appreciated that since we have baby A who would met down fairly quickly when it got to her bedtime. The house was filled with family, food, and kids (oh my KIDS all over). We stayed for a few hours and then headed back home for the night. Baby A slept pretty much the whole way home and we decided to keep her up a bit longer to read a few books. Two versions of Twas the Night Before Christmas (one was a voice book that my mom had recorded for her) and the third book was another Christmas story that Abby's mom gave baby A last year and was also a voice book. It was sweet for baby A to hear each grandma's voice on Christmas Eve. After that, baby A went to bed, and Abby and I finished the prep work for Christmas Day!
25 December:
Christmas Day is here! We got up around 8-ish in the morning. I went downstairs, got the video camera and camera ready in prep of documenting the morning. I then made some coffee for Abby and started a fire finished off with playing Christmas music in the background. Then my two girls came down the stairs, we took the "stairs picture" then continued to the living room for the stocking and present opening fun. Baby A was so fun to watch opening her presents. She has developed and grown so much this year and she really embraced the tearing paper and tissue paper thing. It was a joyous time to watch and be a part of. It will be fun to look at the videos for years to come...
After presents, we had a family breakfast and then got ready for the day. After getting ready, we packed up, loaded the car and headed off for our 5 hour trip to Abby's parents in Ohio. Baby A did a great job with the drive and we didn't have to stop a single time! Amazing!!! We arrived and hung out with one of Abby's brother's family and then ate. Later that evening we exchanged gifts and chilled the rest of the evening. It was good to see Abby's mom who has been in and out of the hospital and looks like she is on the mend. It will be a long process, but good that she is making good progress. I think baby A helped brighten her spirits too!
26 and 27 December:
Themes of these days: vegging out! Yep, that is pretty much it. We've just been sitting around, talking, watching movies, playing with baby A and relaxing! It is weird to not be worrying about any school work or have any other things to think about. Kind of nice, but almost feel like there is a void. Anyway it has been really nice to relax and catch up with the in-laws and see their interactions with baby A. Here's hoping that Abby's mom continues to heal as well as she has been!
Finale:
OK, so you are thinking, what the heck!??!?! Where are the pictures??? I know, I know, I do have some to post. But I know that Abby will have some posts going up with the same pictures, so I don't want to steal the thunder, so to speak. If you want any previews, you can check out my twitter or facebook posts.
Well, that was a lot crammed into one post. If you are still reading, thanks! You must be a true follower, because my guess is that it was a boring post to read. So, if you made the journey, thanks!
Hopefully my next post will be what I am going to be doing to fill the void and time of not having school work to do any more (at least for now)...
