What's new you ask?!?!? Oh not a lot. I have been a big oaf sitting on the couch lately. I started feeling under the weather last week. I last ran on Tuesday and did my early morning Wednesday routine, but continued to feel worse. I finally decided to sleep in (until 6, ugh, is that even sleeping in?) Thursday, Friday, and today with no fitness activity over the weekend or on those days. Anyway, I woke up Saturday and decided I had to go to the doctor. Yep, you guessed it, I was tested for RSV and it was confirmed that my sweet kiddos transferred it to me! I seem to be getting better with rest and meds. I will try and get back in the routine later this week.
OK, enough of that! I have some updates to my 2013 race schedule. It is by no means (I hope) complete, but I have added a few more to the list. In this post I told you I was going to participate in the Run the Bluegrass, Urban Dare, and Warrior Dash. Here is the updated list and dates:
1) March 9, 2013 - 2013 Rail Runner 10 Miler:
This is coming soon. I couldn't really afford to be out of commission for a week! Hopefully I can recover and get back on track to do have a good performance at this event. This will be the longest race so far, so I am a tad nervous about it, but I think it is a great event to do prior to the half marathon a few weeks later.
2) March 16, 2013 - 7th Annual Shamrock Shuffle 3K:
This is a race that has become a tradition for my wife and her friends. This year, I will join them. I hope the weather cooperates and I can push both kids in the double jogger. I will do this one more for fun than for competition, but I am super excited to watch Abby complete this with her friends as she begins her journey to become a runner post-baby (again!). Side note: I will have to run some more after the race to get my mileage in for the half training, ugh!
3) March 30, 2013 - Run the Bluegrass Half Marathon:
Yep, that's the big one (so far)! To say I am nervous about this would be an understatement! Not only will it be my longest run event, but I have heard the course is ridiculous. It is supposedly one of the most beautiful courses to run (through the horse farms/parks), but it also hosts lots and lots of hills. Somewhere on the website, I to not expect a PR at the race but rather expect an extra minute or so added to your average pace. Yikes! At least it will be a PR for me since this is my first half!
4) April 28, 2013 - Urban Dare (Lexington):
This is a fun event with a competitive edge. I already told you about it in a previous post and last year's race, so I won't bore you again. But the distance is unknown as well as the clues. It will be a fun time!
5) May 18, 2013 - The Stampede Mud Run:
This is a 5K mud/obstacle race in Louisville that I am thinking about registering for. This is the only race on the list that I haven't signed up for yet. This is the second year for this event. My co-worker and friend won it the first year (he is one that I consider an expert in obstacle course racing). It is rare to have one of these races so close to home, so I would like to give it a go.
6) August 10, 2013 - Warrior Dash Kentucky:
Yep, I've covered this one in detail too, so I won't bore you with that again.
So there you have it! That is my race schedule for 2013 so far. I like the mix of things so far. March will be a big month for me. I hope I can stay healthy and perform well. I would like to throw in a 5K and 10K or two in there as well. I would love to do a longer OCR, but they are very expensive and far away. I guess time will tell.
That's all I have for now. Until next time blogosphere...
