Happy New Year! (and other updates...)

I've been absent for a while, so I will try and catch you up with this post!

First off, Happy New Year!  I hope you had a nice New Year's Eve and that this year will be better than last (even if last year was awesome).

Every year Abby and I usually host a NYE party.  Nothing crazy or wild, but we usually have some of our closest friends over to hang out, eat some food, have a few drinks, watch the ball drop and just chill for a night.  It is really funny looking back over the years.  We used to all be crazy, play some games, have a counter full of wine, mixed drinks, etc. and the ball drop was just part of the night with the fun continuing past midnight.  Over the years, it is very evident we have gotten older!  Now we hardly (any of us) make it until the ball drop let alone after it.  Now the annual gathering has turned into a celebration focused around our kids.  It is fun to see how we have all evolved over the years and amazing to look back and see the ways we (and our families) have grown.

So, what else has been going on?  Well, we have been having dishwasher issues over the past 6+ months.  It all started last June when our dishwasher suddenly stopped working.  In the process of searching for what was wrong with it, I found a HUGE problem!  When trying to pull the dishwasher out to look at the back of it, I noticed that it won't come out!  What!?!?!?!?  Yes, you read that correctly, it cannot come out of where it is.  See, what happened is the previous owners of our house laid hardwood flooring down.  It looks like the previous owners decided to lay the flooring right up against the legs of the dishwasher.  So the only way to remove the dishwasher is to 1) pull up some of the flooring or 2) rip apart the counter top.  Neither of which are cheap solutions!

While discussing this with one of our friends, he suggested that we take a look at the circuit board and see if we can figure out what is wrong with it and how to fix it.  After a lot of investigating and testing, we found that the thermal fuse had blown!  Woohoo!  I ordered the part and a week and only $20 later, our dishwasher was working again!  Yay!  Until a few weeks ago...  Yes, it happened again.  Boo.  This made me think that there is a bigger issue than just replacing the thermal fuse.  After a few weeks of washing all the dishes by hand, I said what the heck and ordered the part again.  It came in record time and it worked.  FOR THREE DAYS!!!  Yep, only three days.

After researching some more, this appears to be a common problem with this dishwasher, so I decided to order the part again and give it a go one more time.  In the mean time, I stopped by Lowe's and asked if they had any ideas on a replacement.  Let's just say that in order to get the size that will fit (thanks to the issue already discussed) it will cost a whole lot to get it fixed.  So I am really hoping this works.  We would LOVE to replace the counter tops, but it just isn't in the budget at this time.  Maybe one day...

Once I get the part, I will try and make an effort to blog what I do and how I do it.  Heck, you might even get some pictures.  I need to learn from my wife's blog about how to document these things!

In other news, we were able to pull down all the inside and outside Christmas decorations today and get them in that attic.  Whew!  What a relief that is.  Now we just have to redecorate the house the way it was and before we know it, back to work!  It has been really nice being off for all this time, but I am starting to get stir crazy at times and am ready to get back.  If only I could transition with a week of 1/2 days.  Right!  That isn't going to happen.

Anyway, I have another post to write tonight, so thanks for reading my update and Happy New Year!
