It's official! I have completed the first full week of P90X. The theme of the week in one word is "ouch". This is the first workout I have ever done using video/DVD (with the exception of Wii Fit, lol). I have to say, every single workout has been a challenge. Not just a little challenge either, but a hard one!
I have seen a few different schedules you can use for the workout but chose the most common one (I think). It is a different DVD or DVD's each day. Most of them are between 60-75 minutes with the exception of the 90 minute yoga. That aspect has been the most difficult part. Since I am not willing to wake up at 4 AM to start the workouts I wait until Baby A goes to bed around 7-ish. Which means it is near bedtime when I get finished and it is a bit hard to calm down not to mention the couch time I miss spending with my wife. Thanks Abby for your support and encouragement with this challenge.
Anyway the schedule I am using is below with a few notes on the workout:
Day 1 - Chest & Back; Ab Ripper X --> I could barely get through the Ab Ripper X workout by the end.
Day 2 - Plyometrics --> Never tried this before and it is extreme for sure! Fun, but quite challenging!
Day 3 - Shoulders & Arms; Ab Ripper X --> This was probably the least challenging workout yet; better on Abs.
Day 4 - Yoga X --> I was most scared of this one at first; it was fun and enjoyable; frustrating that I am not very flexible, but hopeful for improvements on that.
Day 5 - Legs & Back; Ab Ripper X --> Still hurt!
Day 6 - Kenpo X --> This was fun! A lot like tae-bo and those types of exercises.
Day 7 - X Stretch --> a lot of stretching, but still felt like a workout!
This schedule repeats for the first three weeks; so that means two more weeks of this same routine. I like the thought of being able to repeat these workouts and hopefully improve my performance each time. There are worksheets you fill out to track your progress (i.e. reps and weight used) so it will be nice to have a goal in mind when doing the workouts again.
Here is my update for the stats that I am tracking each week:
Weight ------------------------------------------------- 152.4 lbs.
Body Fat % --------------------------------------------- 19.4%
Water % ------------------------------------------------ 58.8%
Now, how do I feel? Honestly, it feels good. Actually, it feels great! I am hurting. A. Lot. I am sore. But it is a good sore, you know? It is the pain that tells you that you are doing something. Pain I haven't felt in probably 2+ years. It might just be in my mind, but I think I am seeing slight results from the workouts. A little bit of toning here and there. Again, it could just be in my mind, but it helps me when I can barely get up from my desk after sitting for a long period or am struggling up and down the stairs.
So there it is, my one week update. I hate the time it is taking, but I am liking the results so far. Stay tuned for more updates...
